Jesus sends out his Apostles today to preach the good news and heal the sick but he reduces their suitcases to practically nothing. How would they get by with such inadequate provisions ? How could they possibly do a good job reaching the people ?
Of course the answer is to trust ! To realize that Jesus has their back and is guiding them from a distance. To trust in him who sent them.
 
Jesus didn’t send them out like sheep among wolves so that he could relax all weekend on a comfortable sofa watching football. He didn’t send them to a survival camp to toughen them up. He merely wanted to show them that material possessions alone cannot obtain for them what he is sending them to accomplish. He wanted to show them that material possessions, as wonderful as they can be, can’t compare to possessing Jesus in our hearts and teaching others about him. 
 
The Lord wanted them to be dependent on him and not on themselves. And so it is with us. Are we ready to empty ourselves to do whatever he asks ? Are we ready to witness to the truth and show his saving power to whomever he sends us ? Are we ready to witness to others the joy of the Gospel, both in word and in deed ?
