In today’s Gospel many people say they will follow Christ once they take care of other matters. For some it was money matters and for others it was the tug of family ties. As followers of Christ we sometimes have to make choices that excludes other worldly options.
Does this sound hard to you ? Well in life we make those choices all the time. Think about the student who decides to pursue soccer. He makes a choice not to spend hours of practicing basketball in order to be good at soccer. Or the young woman who accepts a marriage proposal knowing this means leaving the comforts of home and trusting her future husband will be faithful to her.
So if we say we want to truly follow Christ, why do we spend countless hours on activities that have nothing to do with Christ or our faith ? So let us ask ourselves today, are there things I need to weed out of my life ? Are there websites or TV shows I should not be watching ? Am I ready to follow the Lord wherever he may lead me ?
