Who do you pray to most often, The Father, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit? Most people answer Jesus or the God the Father. A few say the Holy Spirit. In Cursillo we begin everything we do with a prayer to the Holy Spirit. We pray; “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of us your faithful. Enkindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and we shall be recreated and you shall renew the face of the earth”. While we often say this prayer, do we act like we have the “Fire of His love”! We have that fire blazing when we truly love one another. We are made in God’s image and likeness. We are most like God when we relate as God does, and God relates in love. The only time God is sad is when we stop relating as God relates. Loving in the Spirit is not about “me”, it is about “us”. When we love one another and do works for others we are drawn closer to God. These good deeds lead us to become more and more like God, who delights in us. A few years ago someone asked me; “deacon what is the secret of Cursillo? I see people going to the Cursillo who are active in their parish, those who go to mass and nothing more, and those who have falling away from their Catholic faith. For the most part no matter how they went into the Cursillo, they come out with hearts on fire! What is the secret?”

My response to that person was: “We just love them!” When we truly love we open hearts enough for the Holy Spirit to enter and begin that Metanoia. This is true in Cursillo and it is true in our environment.

Let me say it again. We are most like God when we relate as God does, and God relates only in love. We are most human and divine when we show love for each other. That is when we reach the fullness of our humanity and become most like God in the Spirit. Let me end with this question.

If God came up to you today and asked you: “How is your love life,” how would you respond?
